This watercolor sketch depicts a modern backstreet in the Tor Road area of Kobe. The unique spatial structure between the buildings, the flags and signs swaying on the walls, and the greenery and bicycles in the foreground create an evocative composition of modern urban life. The sense of openness brought out by the vertical composition, along with the pops of color from the greenery and signs against the achromatic streetscape, creates a stylish atmosphere.
